Together for Trusted Identity SIA’s 2025 Review & 2026 Outlook

Dear Members of the Identity Ecosystem,

As we step into 2026, it is with pride and optimism that we reflect on the great progress the Secure Identity Alliance (SIA) has achieved throughout 2025 and share our strategic vision for the year ahead. Our collective efforts have not only advanced the state of digital identity but have also strengthened the global ecosystem through collaboration, innovation, and standardization.

2025: A Year of Milestones and Impact

The past year marked a pivotal phase for SIA, highlighted by the successful integration of ADIA members including CVS, Private ID and Raon Secure, and the transfer of ADIA assets to SIA.

Membership growth was another key highlight, with new members such as Canadian Bank Note Company, IDEMIA Public Security, NEC, Toppan Security, and X-Infotech joining SIA, further diversifying our community and strengthening our collective voice.

This consolidation has broadened our community and enriched our expertise, enabling us to deliver even greater value to the identity ecosystem.

SIDI Hub: Trust Global Interoperability

The SIDI Hub initiative also made substantial strides, with two workshops held in Ethiopia and Paris. These efforts led to the publication of a Trust Management Report and the establishment of a new work item by the ITU-T.

OSIA V7.0 Released!

One of the standout achievements of 2025 was the completion of the OSIA (Open Standards Identity API) roadmap, culminating in the release of the major OSIA Version 7.0. This release included the acceptance of the Authentic Source work item by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T), underscoring our commitment to open standards and interoperability. The year concluded with a highly successful workshop in November and a community meeting in December, bringing together stakeholders to celebrate and build upon these advancements.

eSEC Major Upgrade

In parallel, the eSEC platform saw a significant upgrade with the finalization of its photo database, enhancing document security capabilities. Built on three years of research and informed by decades of cumulative expertise, eSEC evaluates more than 150 security features, including the latest generations. The tool offers a structured self-assessment process to help issuers and designers evaluate existing or planned documents, ensuring balanced feature selection and placement, robust protection against identity fraud and physical attacks, and alignment with international Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) defined by ICAO in Doc 9303, with particular emphasis on basic security features.

In addition, 2025 saw the launch of the SIA Agentic AI Working Group. The group published a report in collaboration with the wider ecosystem, leading to the establishment of a new work item by the ITU-T.

We concluded 2025 with the publication of a paper, in partnership with the Smart Payment Association (SPA), examining how the EUDI Wallet could interact with Europe's payments ecosystem — and what it will take to make that work. Download the paper here.

A Message from our Chairman

Bernd Kümmerle, Chairman of the Board, reflects on the journey and the road ahead:

"It has been inspiring to witness the dedication and collaboration within SIA over the past year. Together, we have laid a strong foundation for the future of secure digital identity. I am confident that by continuing to work as one, we will further foster SIA's global success and drive meaningful change in the identity ecosystem."

Looking Ahead: Key Priorities for 2026

Building on our 2025 achievements, SIA's 2026 roadmap focuses on scaling impact and deepening engagement.

Advancing Trust Management with SIDI

Debora Comparin, Chair of the SIA ID Ecosystem Working Group and ITU-T Study Group 17 Working Party 1 (Digital identity, quantum-based security, PKI, and fundamental security technologies), is chairing the Steering Committee of the ITU workshop organized by ITU-T Study Group 17, taking place from 30 to 31 March 2026, on trustworthy and interoperable digital identities.

The workshop will explore:
• Technical approaches for trust frameworks, trust management, security, and interoperability for humans and agentic AI
• Actionable recommendations and consolidated insights to advance standardization work in this field

A follow-up ITU workshop focused on the underlying trust management framework and governance is also planned for 3 June 2026, in conjunction with the plenary meeting of ITU-T Study Group 17 from 2 to 11 June 2026.

Advancing Interoperability with OSIA

Key priorities include expanding the OSIA certification test plan, finalizing OSIA Authentic Source, progressing OSIA@Borders, and continuing engagement with the OSIA Advisory Committee and the wider OSIA community.

Expanding Visibility of eSEC

Join us for a webinar taking place on 25 February to learn how eSEC functions as a self-assessment and training tool for evaluating document security, guiding design improvements, and aligning identity document security features with international standards and regulatory requirements, while avoiding common non-compliance risks.

Contact us to join the User Group, participate in the webinar, request a trial.

Promoting the ADIA Framework

Block the date for a webinar taking place on 22 April to learn how any organization can use the ADIA standards-based framework to support accountable and interoperable digital identity solutions.
